Meet Kevin - a multifaceted man, driven by his passions and a mission to guide and empower individuals with limb difference. From amputee advocacy to sportsmanship, Kevin wears many hats, each contributing to his unique and uplifting perspective on life.
In the early chapters of his life, Kevin navigated the challenges of growing up with a congenital limb difference. “Difficult and lonely at times” is how he reflects on his experience. He didn’t know any other people with a limb difference, who would be able to relate to what he was going through and share similar experiences. Despite the difficulties, he credits his supportive family for encouraging an active lifestyle. Kevin’s parents and older brother instilled in him a ‘get out there and get your hands dirty’ approach, shaping his adaptive mindset and fostering a deep appreciation for relatability.
As the story unfolded, Kevin emerged as a passionate ambassador for disability awareness. His mission became clear - to help 10,000 individuals with limb difference break free from limitations and become active, successful contributors to society. Coaching, guidance, and effective resources are the tools he provides, aiming to prevent amputation from defining one's personality and capabilities.
In the core of Kevin's narrative are his hobbies, each adding its own special touch to his journey. Ice hockey takes centre stage, providing him with an unparalleled sense of fulfilment and camaraderie. From roller hockey at age six to joining his first middle school ice hockey team when he was around nine years old, the rink became a canvas for Kevin's resilience, and is still part of his life.
He also enjoys fitness activities that provide a sense of accomplishment and offer a sanctuary for stress release. Additional hobbies include playing a variety of sports, reading, cooking, and collecting sports cards.
Kevin's prosthetic device of choice is the TASKA Hand, and he describes his favourite features with enthusiasm. The waterproof capability is a must in his medical profession, providing peace of mind, and its robustness allows him to engage in various activities, from playing with his kids to skiing, with confidence in its capabilities. Kevin's firsthand experience with the TASKA Hand – having had it for years since its first generation and only having sent for repair once – speaks volumes about its reliability.
Kevin's story is one of resilience, advocacy, and a commitment to living life to the fullest. Through his various roles as a limb difference advocate, athlete, and family man, Kevin shares two invaluable lessons he's learned in life. Firstly, the pursuit of knowledge should be a lifelong journey, “as long as you are living, you are never done learning.” Secondly, he encourages others to pause occasionally and appreciate the blessings life has to offer.
